In her book, Miserly Moms, Jonni McCoy explains a few helpful tips for the working mom on how to save money each month. When I went back after maternity leave, these tips came in handy. Here are five tips from her book on how the working mom can save each month on groceries:
1. Plan menus around the ads & sales flyers--by doing just this, it can cut your grocery bill by 30%
2. Stock up on sale items--but buy only the items you will use & buy enough to last you 4 to 6 weeks.
3. Avoid, if possible, convenience foods--or limit them--these means prepackaged & frozen foods. You will pay 4 to 6 times more for convenience.
4. Try to avoid eating out at work--take your own everything.
5. Do your shopping and cooking once a month to save time and money--when items are on sale, buy in bulk and buy enough for the month. Set aside one or two days a month to cook meals & then freeze them.
